Hey! I’m Alex, a Product Designer based in Brisbane 👋
I’m passionate about design and meticulous with the details. As Principal Product Designer at CarExpert, a scale up which is shaking up the car buying experience. I lead a small team of designers, ensuring every element aligns with business goals and user needs. While CarExpert prepares for its IPO in 2025, I’m focused on refreshing the website and building a design system to ensure we can provide the best new car buying experience.
My career includes working with big brands, most recently Oz Lotteries. Where I led a team of designers, supporting a web and app customer base of over 3 million. I have extensive experience across B2C and B2B products and thrive on understanding the “why” through user research, ensuring designs are intuitive and thoughtful.

My day-to-day
At CarExpert, I work closely with the engineering team to keep projects on track while ensuring the user remains at the heart of our development process. I introduced weekly design syncs with my fellow designers to maintain design consistency across the business, which is crucial for a fast-paced scale-up. Daily collaboration with the Head of Product and Chief Technical Officer helps us refocus on upcoming tasks, brainstorm ideas, and refine concepts before sharing them with the rest of the development team.
But it’s not all meetings and discussions! I still get my hands very dirty in Figma and love talking to our customers, bubbling up insights, facilitating interviews, and running surveys to sprinkle that extra touch of user-centric magic into every design and ensure our product aligns with the customers' expectations. I also will regularly touch base with the Founder and CEO to ensure they are happy from a business perspective.
So, whether I'm perfecting pixels or nurturing collaboration within the design team, every day brings it’s own exciting challenges and rewards.
Tools of choice
A bit more
I started my career at BCM, one of Brisbane’s biggest advertising agencies, where I developed a strong work ethic, a broad range of design skills, and an eye for detail. I began with simple projects like social posts, eDMs, and web banners (we all have to start somewhere), but soon worked on high-profile campaigns, sites, apps, and VR experiences for clients like QUT, TMR, Capilano, and Bundaberg Brewed Drinks. I also supported the motion design team, diving into After Effects and Cinema 4D.
After BCM, I transitioned into a Lead UX role at Vivo Group, designing websites for Poolwerx and Spicers Retreat. While this was a valuable experience, I wanted more direct interaction with end users, where I could iterate based on their feedback and bring more passion into my designs. This wasn’t possible in an agency setting.
I then joined Jumbo Interactive as a Product Designer, where I worked on Oz Lotteries, Australia’s largest online lottery reseller with over 3 million customers. In my second year, Jumbo pivoted to offer white-label lottery solutions, shifting to a SaaS model that rapidly matured the company. During this time, I helped lead Jumbo’s transformation into a product-driven company, adopting new methodologies like Basecamp’s Shape Up and championing continuous discovery in the product process, which ultimately led to better user outcomes.
Recently, I moved to CarExpert, a smaller scale-up company preparing for an IPO in 2025. In my time here, I’ve had the opportunity to make a significant impact, working closely with the Founder, CEO, and Head of Product to bring their vision to life with the development team.
My own process to design
As a Principal Product Designer, I like to use the double-diamond approach to crafting solutions that resonate deeply with users. This approach was introduced to me when I first started working at Jumbo, and it has elevated all aspects of design and management.
Firstly, I dive into research, uncovering insights and sparking creativity. Then, I hone ideas through rapid prototyping and user testing, refining until I can deliver a solution. This process ensures my designs are not just "Dribbble worthy" but deeply meaningful, driving impact and delighting customers.
